Reflexology, Acupressure, and the Sen Sib Energy Lines

Reflexology Massage treatments in Thailand are based on the idea that certain points in our body — that is, points or locations which lie along the Sip Sen Energy Lines — such as points on our ears, feet and hands, are able to influence the proper functioning of related organs and other body systems.

These reflexology points are called acupoints or acupressure points, and in Thai Massage they are usually manipulated through massage, stretches, pressure, and acupressure, and sometimes also by using herbal compresses.

The idea hereof is that applying pressure to acupressure points one can unblock i.e. clear the Sen Lines, which encourages the free flow and balance of Prana Life Energy (Lom Pran), and promotion of health accordingly.

Many acupressure points on the feet and hands are related to Sen Kalathari and its therapeutic indications, yet some other Sen Lines also pass the hands and feet. Those on the ears are related to Sen Ulangka and Sen Lawusang, and those starting directly around the navel (umbilicus) relate to all the Sib Sen Lines.

When there is an imbalance in an organ or other area of the body, it’s common that tender, sensitive, or painful acupressure points will be found in the corresponding areas on the ear, feet, or hands. This analysis can help to treat the problems inside our bodies.

To support therapeutic work, you can find acupressure or reflexology charts (or maps) available of the hands, ears, and feet. They provide information about which points correspond to which organ, body part, or functional body system.

However, when it comes to these pressure point maps, we need to pay cautious; there are a variety of different charts circulating, stemming from different traditional medicine systems or lineages within those, and they often seem to contradict each other.
