The term Sexercise, which is the concatenation of the words sex and exercise, has two different meanings.

The first meaning of Sexercise refers to practices that aim at doing exercises to improve sexual performance and function. As a rule, one could say that any exercise specifically done to improve sex would count as Sexercise.

The second meaning of Sexercise is about having sex as a health activity, that is, engaging in sexual activities for its health benefits.

Let’s take a look at each of the options.

This idea behind Sexercise is that physical fitness can make sex easier, more comfortable, and more satisfying, while also reducing the risk of illnesses that can cause sexual problems such as poor blood circulation, arousal disorders, and Erectile Dysfunction (ED).

In addition, physical fitness increases endurance and strength during sexual activity, while it also helps people to feel more confident in their bodies.

Some examples of Sexercise practices include Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercises (i.e. Kegel Exercises), performing squats, cardio or aerobic exercises (such as swimming, walking, fitness, jogging), lifting weights, and Yoga.

Having (consensual) sex typically involves a form of physical exercise that can have many physical, emotional, and mental health benefits. Of course, the quantity of sexual activity and the way you have sex will define which and how much of these benefits may apply.

But okay, as a general rule we could say that regular and more or less intense sexual activity can boost blood circulation, lower blood pressure, improve heart health, build and tone muscles, improve the immune system, increase emotional health, enhance mood, reduce stress, depression and anxiety, diminish overweight, promote self-esteem, improve partner relationships, and boost sleep quality.

In addition, certain sex positions may bring extra challenges and workout opportunities as for their demand of physical strength, flexibility, and endurance.
