Somwang Thai Massage School in Chiang Mai is located about 2.5 km from the Old City. It is run by Somwang Khachenniam, an experienced practitioner and teacher who began her career in Thai Massage at the Wat Po Temple in Bangkok. She worked at the Wat Po Massage School for 15 years, being promoted in 2009 to be the head teacher of the Chiang Mai branch. After a few years of that, she decided it was time to open her own school.

She has also taught students abroad, in Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Romania and Japan. The school welcomes Thai and foreign students, and the prices for all the students are equal. Somwang is the founder and main teacher, but currently works with a team of experienced teachers as well.

The school offers a set of training courses such as: Thai Traditional Massage (5 days, 30 hours); Aromatherapy Oil Massage (5 days, 30 hours); Foot Reflexology (5 days, 30 hours); plus an option to learn extra Massage Therapy Techniques to relieve muscle pain, where you pay en extra fee per day.

However, the course programs are adaptable to the student’s needs. The classes can be more introductory or advanced, depending on your level, and mentorships and apprenticeships are also available upon request and availability.

The course enrollments take place every Monday. There are a limited number of places available, so it’s advisable to always book ahead to secure your place. You are also very welcome to visit the school any time, to ask questions and meet the team of teachers.
