Bound Massage — also known as Bondage Massage — is a massage modality that includes (light) bondage activities, that is, the receiver will be tied up throughout a session. Most commonly, the massage will be carried out on a massage table. Binding (or tying up) may be done with ropes, chains, tape, cuffs, and/or shawls.

Part of BDSM, kink, or fetish practices, Bound Massage may also include other “dark” elements, such as sensory deprivation (for instance, through blindfolding, gagging, or headsets) and sensation play (inflicting pain, discomfort, or using out of the ordinary temperatures, sounds, smells, and whatnot).
Although Bound Massage will often consist of a sensual erotic massage treatment modality accompanying the “bondage” work (think of FBSM Massage, Tantric Massage, or Erotic Oil Massage), the massage may also be devoid of erotic or sexual activities and simply consist of a more “regular” massage such as Swedish Massage (Classic Massage) or Full Body Oil Massage.
Important aspects surrounding the Bound Massage session are consent and safety. It means that the client/receiver should know beforehand what will happen during the sessions and agrees to it. In addition, the practitioner should be working in a knowledgeable, professional, and safe way with BDSM tools and activities. It’s also common that the receiver can use a so-called safe word, which when said will make the practitioner stop the activity they’re engaged in.

The idea behind Bound Massage is that the receiver can fully relax by surrendering control, while being exposed to increased pleasure and heightened experiences. In addition, it’s thought that Bound Massage offers a path for receivers to explore their normally hidden, suppressed, or repressed desires and emotions, which can lead to increased body-awareness and self-awareness, and even deep emotional or trauma release.
Mind that the label “Bound Massage” is a rather general term for all types of massages that include BDSM bondage activities in their sessions. In fact, there are various specialized “Bound Massage” modalities to be found, such as Tie & Tease Massage, Roleplay Massage, Bondassage, Dark Tantra Massage, Kinkassage, and Elysium, to name some of the most popularly known modalities.
Bound Massage may be given by a massage therapist who has a professional understanding of BDSM practices, or — by contrast — the treatment may be given by a BDSM professional who’s likewise proficient in giving massage therapy. Session times may vary significantly and can range between one and three hours, all depending on the variety of BDSM elements brought into a session.
