Yoni Mapping is usually practiced by professional massage and bodywork therapists and needs special training and trauma-informed competencies.

However, in past years, you also find an increasing number of workshops and courses aimed at learning to do Yoni Mapping yourself, commonly called Self Yoni Mapping. Typically, these are trainings that take just a day or a weekend or so, or even shorter, often in the form of guided online coaching sessions.
The question now is if Self Yoni Mapping is at all possible, if it makes any sense, and if there are risks involved by trying to do it yourself.
Now, in theory, some form of Self Yoni Mapping may certainly be possible, depending on the case. But, first of all, a person should deeply understand the ideas behind Yoni Mapping, that is, apart from the fun and pleasure aspect, also understand how it may relate to or touch suppressed or repressed emotions and trauma, the role one’s nervous system and physiological processes in the body play, how physical and emotional blockages can be recognized and how they manifest themselves, and what techniques can be used to get rid of or manage blockages.

Secondly, a person should actually be trained or proficient in the techniques they intend to use to explore, relax, or de-armor themselves, may that be massage with the fingers, mindfulness, Yoga, Breathwork, Pelvic Floor Exercises, imagery or visualizations, or using the Yoni Egg or Yoni Wand, to give some examples.
In addition, a person should be able to guide themselves properly in the event of intense emotional or trauma release during their Self Yoni Mapping session, that is, they shouldn’t get into more distress or perhaps even add new trauma to their “system.”
And last but not least, one should be able to digest and integrate new cognitive insights and subsequent changed attitudes into one’s life, meaning that one should be capable of giving oneself proper aftercare.
It’s important to realize that Yoni Mapping is professional and diligent work, and although Self Yoni Mapping is theoretically possible, it needs quite some knowledge, preparation, and caution to be able to do it yourself. In most cases, it’s advised to first having undergone one or more Yoni Mapping sessions guided by a professional practitioner, simply do get the gist of the work and to learn where your particular strengths, weaknesses, and pitfalls may be.
