On our website we list quite a variety of different types of massage and bodywork treatment providers in various countries and cities. Now, a while ago, one of our website visitors wrote to us that “… we don’t list true Yoni therapists.”
I found that rather interesting, because I myself don’t know what exactly a “Yoni therapist” is, and I really wondered what she actually meant by the term. But, as far as I know, the label “Yoni therapist” can only be used as a kind of umbrella term for massage and bodywork practitioners who work with the Yoni.
Hence, it can point to practitioners — or therapists, if you prefer — who practice Yoni Massage, Vaginal Massage or Vulva Massage, Yoni De-Armouring, Somatic Sex Coaching, Yoni Mapping, Yoni Steaming, Sexological Bodywork, Body-Oriented Psychology, or perhaps teach therapeutic or restorative Yoni Yoga or Yoni Egg applications, to give some examples.
In addition, it’s important to realize that the term “Yoni” in the context of massage and bodywork is traditionally used by Tantric and Neo-Tantric practitioners, which would actually limit the definition of Yoni therapist to those who use a Tantric approach in their treatments and therapies. Yoni, then, refers to work with women — or Yoni owners — as a whole-being, covering a holistic ensemble of physical, emotional, mental, sexual, and spiritual aspects.
However, nowadays, the term Yoni is widely used as just a synonym for vagina or vulva/vagina, or anything that has to do with the female genitals, including the clitoris, cervix, and uterus. Moreover, and this is especially true for Yoni massage practitioners, many masseurs/masseuses who “do something with the Yoni” call themselves Yoni massage therapists, even if they have no proper training or a Tantric background.
Therefore, if you look for a “Yoni therapist,” you first need to know what exactly you are looking for. I mean, who you need, depends on your goals, which could include sexual and sensual erotic pleasure, relaxation and stress relief, curiosity, “expanding orgasmic potential,” healing sexual disorders and dysfunctions, or sexual trauma release, to give some examples.
That will guide you in making a choice for a certified or uncertified practitioner, a professional or self-proclaimed “therapist” and more importantly, which will make it much easier for you to discern between the many so-called “Yoni therapists” out there.
But to come back to the beginning of this article: on our site we list Yoni massage and Yoni mapping therapists, but also Tantra practitioners, sexological bodyworkers, somatic sex educators, and somatic sex coaches, but we don’t review them or give any advice about whom to choose for. As said, who might be a good match for you depends heavily on the treatment session goals you aim for.
