Not so long ago, one of our website visitors asked me about the best way to become a Tantra massage practitioner. He told me that many people recommended him to take a Sexological Bodywork training.
I was a bit surprised, because Sexological Bodywork (SB) has actually not so much to do with Tantra or Tantric Massage (any longer).
Taking that as a starting point it needs to be said that SB was/is indeed influenced by Tantric Lingam and Yoni Massage and Taoist Erotic Massage. These treatment modalities were created or co-created by Joseph Kramer, who also developed SB.
Now, to become a Tantra massage practitioner or more specifically a Lingam massage or Yoni massage practitioner, you can find plenty of training offerings with many individual Tantra practitioners, Tantra trainers, and training schools, around the world — both in an online and in-person format.
But keep in mind here that Tantra Massage is not ONE specific type of massage treatment modality. There are different ways of “doing it” — different styles with different focus — depending on the Tantric lineage, background, and focus of the teacher.
On the other hand, SB is a Somatic Sex Coaching education — embodied sex coaching that takes physical, emotional/mental, and spiritual aspects into account — that additionally integrates hands-on bodywork and erotic massage, including Genital Mapping (Lingam, Vaginal/Vulva Mapping, and/or Yoni Mapping), Genital De-Armoring, and Sexual De-Armoring.
However, it’s crucial to understand that there are differences in Tantric and Non-Tantric approaches with regard to erotic massages, emotional and trauma healing, and/or de-armoring, and in a general sense, SB is far from being an exclusively Tantric modality.
Another thing is that many certified sexological bodyworkers are often also trained in Tantric Massage and tend to also incorporate Tantric concepts and Tantric bodywork in their practice. This may add to the confusion that SB is some kind of Tantric massage training.
So, to make a long story short here, SB is a good, comprehensive training in the broader sense of Somatic Sex Coaching, and you’ll find elements of Tantra in the training course, but to become a Tantra massage practitioner there are (perhaps) better, easier, and more direct ways.
