Tai Chi (Tai Chi Chuan) and Qigong (Chi Kung) are both ancient Chinese traditions. QiGong has its focus on cultivating, circulating, and harmonizing so-called Qi (Life Energy). Tai Chi, related to Qigong and its principals, is however basically a martial art.
Some forms of Qigong do emphasize the physical characteristics and movements that are useful when practicing martial arts, but in general Qigong is not about defense and attack principles.
In Thailand, you will often see Qigong or Tai Chi practitioners in public parks early in the morning or around 5pm in the afternoon. There are quite a number of training centers across the country, and certainly also in Bangkok with it’s large Chinese community, but many schools are difficult to access (as for language issues) or simply unknown to foreigners.
In this post, we give an overview of Chiang Mai’s Tai Chi and Qigong Schools and Trainers (often the centers will teach both modalities) that welcome and facilitate foreign students.
