IAIM Infant Massage | History and Influences

The IAIM Infant Massage was developed by Vimala Schneider McClure, who introduced Infant Massage in the USA in 1976, after having learned it in India in 1973.

In 1978, she developed a training program for Infant Massage instructors. Later, in 1986, she founded the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM), which has continued to grow, and today has representatives in over seventy countries worldwide, and tens of thousands of trained IAIM-style Infant Massage Instructors.

In a way the IAIM style of Baby Massage has become the de facto standard of general Western-style Infant and Baby Massage.

Nevertheless, the IAIM Infant Massage is based on Indian Ayurvedic Baby Massage, but mixed with Yoga and meditation practices, Swedish Massage (Classic Massage), Reflexology, and the contemporary insights of anatomy and physiology.
