Apart from aspects like consent, inquiry, and initial talks about your issues and needs, and an explanation of the way the therapist will work, a Yoni mapping session may include a prelude such as Breast Massage, a Full Body Massage, and/or massage of the abdominal and pelvic area.

This is basically done to relax you, to encourage increased body awareness, and to stimulate the blood circulation in your body, notably in the pelvic i.e. genital area.

Other relaxation exercises may also be carried out, such as guided meditation, movement and touch explorations, and/or breathwork.

After the preliminary massage and/or other relaxation exercises or treatments, the actual mapping of the vagina and/or vulva will take place.

It’s advised not to eat at least two to three hours before a session. If possible, it’s also better to empty the bladder and bowels beforehand.

Make time for a session. That is, reserve the whole day if possible. A thorough Yoni mapping session can take from two up to four hours.

You will also need to go to the studio or place of the therapist (although a therapist may perhaps also come to you), which takes time. Afterwards you’ll need time to go home and rest. Relaxing after a session is important to let body and mind calm down, digest, and recover.

Make sure you are clean and fresh. Take a shower or bath beforehand. Take those things with you that you think you may want to use: a towel, a bottle of water, deodorant, a disinfector, clean clothes, or whatever it is you think you would want at some point during your visit.

Mind that the Yoni mapping session itself will always start with a thorough introduction, especially if it would be the first time you meet the practitioner. That is, the therapist will talk with you for at least half an hour to an hour before actually starting hands-on bodywork.

Knowing what you need and want (or not need or not want) and knowing what you can handle physically and emotionally is very important. Besides that, one needs to get used to one another and feel a connection and trust.

Don’t hesitate to leave if something doesn’t feel good. Just pay and leave; that’s much better than going through a disturbing or even traumatic treatment experience.
