Energy Healing is a very diverse topic, not without much controversy, but nevertheless a prominent phenomenon in human life. I have already written about it in my eBook Life Force & Energy Healing, but I do want to share with you an exchange I had with an interested reader.
She wrote me about her emerging abilities of Energy Healing — with non-touch hand-healing — and her doubts about how to navigate and manage it. Here’s my response. It may be of support for those who “stumbled upon” this ability and wonder what it is, and how to deal with it.

“What you shared with me is rather complicated. I think you know that. But let me share some things that I feel are important when it comes to this thing called “Energy Healing.”
Now, Energy Healing encompasses a very broad field of “work” or “abilities” that have emerged in people since we can remember. What is important here is to understand that — most of the time — “abilities” emerge in a certain cultural context.
Healers work and serve within that cultural context having been influenced by the culture or society they grew up in, and they typically accompany their healing methods by also using the symbols, concepts, ceremonies, rituals, and so on that are part of their culture.
This is important, because it has also been recorded that energy healers are particularly effective in healing people that are part of their culture. Energy healing is often not a one-way street. It needs the patient/client also to be able to tune in in the way the healing is performed.
Now, this is not always the case. Sometimes people can heal, even if they do not come from a certain culture. Or perhaps not even “believe” in energy healing.
What is also important is to realize that “native” energy healers cannot heal everybody. It’s hard to say in advance if work will be effective or not. The reason for this is that it’s not work that is highly “structured”. There’s a lot of “feeling” and “seeing” involved and sometimes healers do not “see” well, or — by contrast — patients are not receptive at all. There’s no fault there. It is how it is.
But “to heal” is likewise a very broad term. It may refer to actually healing physical issues, or rather emotional/traumatic, mental, or spiritual issues, or perhaps it is more like people who “see” and help people with advice by “tuning into” their “system”.
I don’t know if I make myself clear here, but I want to say that there’s no “one way” of how energy healers actually heal and serve their communities. Moreover, what this “energy” is, is highly debatable. But for the energy healer — well — they just call it “energy” or “spirit” or “life force” or perhaps “aura” or whatever. It doesn’t really matter. It’s about the fact that a certain person has the ability to induce healing in a way that is not conventional, simply by either transmitting force or balancing it or extracting excessive/negative force/energy out of a person.
Another thing is that what exactly is meant by “energy healing” is rather vague. It’s not vague for those who do it because they have a kind of living experience of their way of energy work, but in general it is very vague for those who do not have the ability to heal through “energy exchange” or through “energy balancing”.
For those who start to see that they have this ability — often by coincidence — it’s also crucial to understand that it is a unique ability, in the sense that it cannot be learned. It is sort of “bestowed” on the person. It also means that such a person will struggle in managing and navigating this ability, because it’s not a fixed set of techniques or knowledge, or something one can learn in a course or workshop, etc.
However, what is important is that such a person connects to other energy healers they are feeling a strong connection/affinity with. Not so much to learn their techniques or so (that is not possible), but to learn how to navigate this ability, because there are certain risks involved.
Those risks are general and can be talked about and they can be learned to be avoided. The primary issue that needs to be addressed is how to “protect oneself” That is, by “giving” energy one loses energy that needs to be replenished. By “taking excess energy away” one can receive/transfer this energy in one’s own system which can be destructive for one’s health. The safest is “balancing” energy, but that is only when the person treated has an imbalance, and it simply needs to be distributed evenly in their body/mind system. In the latter case, there’s not so much giving and taking but rather unblocking, distributing, “balancing.”
Nevertheless, most of the time you will get in touch with people/patients who lack energy (weakness of body, emotions, mind) or have a surplus/excessive energy. The latter is sometimes also called “being possessed”. In both cases however, people will not function “optimally,” to say the least.
Now, in your particular case, I can only say that I see that you express an affinity with the [not disclosed for privacy reasons] culture. So, it’s very obvious that you need to find a kind of “apprenticeship” with a [not disclosed for privacy reasons] healer you trust intuitively with your heart. I don’t know if you know that culture or are part of it (or perhaps in the past), but I should say that that needs to be your first step. That will lead you to other steps. That’s how life goes.
I could not possibly recommend you any other way. And certainly not all those weekend “courses and workshops” that teach you how to “effectively heal” people and make a lot of money with it. That is all such crap, a hoax, and just bogus.
What is important is to have a “mirror” in the form of an authentic healer you feel you can trust and connects with you in order to be able to navigate your healing abilities. Such a person will never tell you WHAT to do or HOW to do it, but will work with patients, let you see, join, feel, and learn by your own inner abilities and development.
They can talk with you to share with you their experiences. How to protect yourself, how to engage with people, and so on. General stuff, but detailed in the way that those things can be thought. You can learn protection techniques, you can learn certain assessment techniques, you can learn how to best approach certain types of people. Apprenticeship is key there.
Surely you can also go your own way. But it’s always handy to have a mirror. It speeds up your own process.
Anyway, I hope this helps a bit in your search. Mind that I am not an energy healer, just an interested observer. That’s all. My life path has touched this field briefly, but I could not protect myself sufficiently and got very tired emotionally and mentally (and finally physically). Taking other directions became necessary in my life.
I want to say that you need to feel well with this and have proper “mirrors” and make sure you do well for yourself first. At any moment it takes too much, you need to reflect, change, and work on handling it better. Sometimes it is still not the time to go deep in it, sometimes yes. This is so personal, but it’s so crucial to stay firm, clear, conscious, and not let your head “spin” by it.
This then is what I can say, just as I wrote it down in one-go, without thinking what to say. From the heart.
I wish you all success on this journey. Love, peace, fulfillment. I hope you find your first teacher to work with together. I cannot say this enough though: a true teacher will never force you or direct you in a certain direction, will never ask money from you, or “make you do things.” Never. They will always give you full agency, just holding a mirror in your face.
Kind greetings,
Marce”
