Testosteronemaxxing, also known as T-maxxing, is a subset of looksmaxxing practices that aims at increasing testosterone levels in the body to improve one’s physique, energy, and perceived “masculinity.”
Testosterone is the most important sex hormone in men, and vital to healthy sexual functioning. It plays a crucial part in the development of the male reproductive system such as the testes, penis, and prostate, apart from promoting secondary male characteristics such as increased muscle and bone mass, and body hair growth.
Therefore, in the context of male maxxing techniques, it’s particularly the role of testosterone in stimulating stereotypical markers of physical attractiveness that interests the involuntarily celibate community (known as incels), who believe it will increase their chances of securing a date or forming a romantic or sexual relationship.
Men may use various methods to increase testosterone levels in their body. This can include lifestyle changes aimed at naturally optimizing the body’s own testosterone production, such as getting enough sleep, following a healthy diet (rich in proteins, healthy fats, and certain vitamins and minerals), regular physical exercise, avoiding excessive alcohol and smoking, among other habits.
Other natural techniques that are thought to increase testosterone levels are jelqing (also known as jelqmaxxing), Testicles Massage, semen retention practices, and edging (sexual orgasm retention).
In addition, men may turn to using synthetic hormones in the form of supplements, anabolic steroids, or Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). Mind that excessive use of synthetic hormones (typically the use of anabolic steroids) to promote muscle mass and a stronger male physique is also known as roidmaxxing, which is a so-called hardmaxxing technique (a form of looksmaxxing).
Synthetic hormones may be taken orally (in the form of pills or tablets), injected intramuscularly, applied to the skin (as gels or patches), or administered through implants in the soft tissues.
It’s important to realize that the controlled intake of synthetic hormones (or alternatively medication that promotes testosterone production in the body) has legitimate medical purposes, such as bone marrow stimulation, growth stimulation, stimulation of appetite, treating delayed puberty, aiding weight gain after illness, treating alcoholic hepatitis, masculinizing hormone therapy for transgender men, treating hypogonadism, and treating low libido (low sex drive).
In any case, maxxing or the long-term use of anabolic steroids and other synthetic hormones or medications for non-medical purposes disrupts the hormonal balance in men (and may even inhibit natural testosterone production), potentially leading to harmful cholesterol levels, acne, high blood pressure, sleep problems, liver damage, aggression, recklessness, heart failure, strokes, reduced sperm count, testicular shrinkage, breast enlargement, erectile dysfunction, low libido, and prostate cancer, to name some adverse conditions.
