Animal Role Play, such as portraying a cat, bird, wolf, or bear in imaginative play, in a fairytale on stage, or in a show, is a common activity enjoyed by all age groups.
However, in the context of BDSM, fetish, or kink practices, Animal Role Play — also known as Pet Play — is an activity in which one or both partners play the part of an animal, usually in a dominant-submissive setting, that is, animal owner versus domesticated animal/pet.

In addition to playing the role of an animal, and depending on what animal or act is involved, you will find specific equipment or furniture that accompanies a scene. Think of a leash, litter box, chain, whip, cart, bit, saddle, neck collar, gag, cage, harness, or muzzle, and so on.
The most popular animals to imitate are cats, dogs, rabbits, horses, ponies, and cows, but then again — anything is possible.
The person who plays an animal would often dress with certain attributes that belong to an animal (think of attaching a tail, fur, or large ears, etc.), while also mimicking the type of animal enacted, such as barking, panting, whining, crawling around on the knees, pulling a cart, being fed or petted, and so on.
Mind that Pet Play can be either sexual or non-sexual, which depends on the persons involved. For some it’s a necessary fetish to have pleasurable sex, but for others it’s just a social game in which the “players” derive pleasure from their closeness and intimacy.
