Newari Baby Massage | Nepal

The Newar people are the indigenous inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley and its surrounding areas in Nepal. The Newari Baby Massage is in fact a form of the well-known Nepali Baby Mustard Oil Massage.

In the Newari Baby Massage the baby is oiled with Mustard oil to keep it warm, then massaged with circular, clockwise movements, bathed in a bucket of warm water, and finally again oiled and rubbed with Mustard oil until the baby falls asleep.

It’s believed that these baby massages enhance sleep quality, relieve from colic and gas, prevent digestive problems, and stimulate the infant’s immune system and overall wellbeing.
