To have a clearer overall outline of maxxing practices, it may be tempting to classify them — for instance, into specific maxxing categories and, within those categories, into subcategories or subsets.
However, many maxxing practices fall into more than one category, overlap with others, serve as complementary practices, or are considered distinct categories that stand alone or perhaps support other maxxing activities.
Perhaps the only maxxing category with definite subcategories is looksmaxxing. For example, facemaxxing, facepulling, jawmaxxing, skinmaxxing, surgerymaxxing, testosteronemaxxing, and gymmaxxing are all part of looksmaxxing, aimed at improving one’s physical appearance and attractiveness.
As for the example above, mind that facepulling and jawmaxxing are actually again subsets of facemaxxing, and facemaxxing itself has overlap with skinmaxxing.
Nonetheless, on the highest hierarchical level, we could say that maxxing activities can be divided into five distinct domains or efforts, aimed at maximizing i.e., optimizing one’s:
- physical characteristics;
- social status;
- outward personality (behavioral);
- inner emotional, mental, and cognitive qualities;
- pickup artistry and trickery.
In addition to the above, there are also maxxing practices that are fatalistic, born out of accepting “defeat” and abandoning efforts to escape involuntary celibacy. These practices, which might be better described as “minimizing,” aim to consolidate defeat, almost as if ensuring that one will always remain celibate.
Anyway, to give you an idea of how maxxing practices fall in one or more categories, may support each other, or how they overlap, I’ll give you a few examples.
For instance, therapymaxxing is a means to an end, that is, it serves both personalitymaxxing and statusmaxxing, rather than a subcategory of either of them; therapymaxxing is the foundational work that enables and supports the behavioral changes required for personalitymaxxing and statusmaxxing.
Another example: thugmaxxing can be considered a subcategory of personalitymaxxing, as the practice involves changing personality traits (attitude, demeanor, use of slang) to resemble those of a stereotypical criminal or “gangster” figure. However, it also encompasses changes in appearance (style of clothing, physical features, tattoos, posture, aesthetics), which places it as a subset of looksmaxxing, and within looksmaxxing, as a form of stylemaxxing.
Therefore, while thugmaxxing is at its core a personality change, it’s considered a distinct maxxing category because it blends aspects of both personality and physical appearance modification.
And, to finish the set of examples: when you look at mindmaxxing and personalitymaxxing, you’ll notice that these are overlapping areas.
That is, personalitymaxxing tends to focus on the output of social interaction: charisma, being engaging, emotional intelligence, confidence, and developing the “social mask” that attracts others, while mindmaxxing tends to focus on the input and internal development: acquiring knowledge, intellect, critical thinking skills, expertise in specific subjects, and academic pursuits, among others.
Now, they overlap because a well-read and intelligent person (mindmaxxed) has usually more to contribute to conversation (personalitymaxxed). On the other hand, one could mindmaxx by becoming an expert in a certain topic without improving one’s charisma, communication, or social skills (that is, not being personalitymaxxed).
Anyway, in our eBook Male Maxxing, you’ll find the maxxing practices discussed in alphabetical order, and apart from looksmaxxing you’ll not encounter any specific subcategorizations. However, within the description of each maxxing practice — if applicable — it will be mentioned with what other maxxing practice(s) it relates, overlaps, or if it’s a subcategory of another practice.
