Thai Massage is an effective massage and bodywork modality to combat neck or shoulder stiffness and pains. Typically, you’ll find that Thai Massage practitioners will use a variety of mobilization, stretch, and massage techniques on the neck and shoulder muscles to treat the area.
Therapists will usually work on the trapezius muscles and sternocleidomastoid muscles, and often likewise on the rest of the back muscles and even the pectorals (chest muscles).
Doing so gives more range of motion for the chest, back, neck, shoulder and shoulder blades, which in its turn gives space and relief for the neck and shoulders, often alleviating or curing stiffness and pains, but also headaches that are a result of tensions or constrictions in the neck and shoulder area.
In addition, Thai Massage knows several important acupressure points in the facial and cranial area that can be treated to aid in resolving aforementioned health issues. Under the cranial and facial acupressure map displayed here below we’ll mention the acupoints that are therapeutically indicated.

- And points H19, H20, H24, and H25 at the base of the skull.
Besides these acupoints, it’s common to also give acupressure on all other minor acupoints along the base of the skull and on points further down the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles.
