Cosplay is a blend of the words “costume” and “play” and is an activity and performance art in which people wear costumes and other appropriate accessories to mimic a specific character or role. It’s a form of roleplay.
The characters that are represented in Cosplay (i.e. Costume Play) can be drawn from any entity, but favorite sources include anime, fantasy, cartoons, manga, animal species, fairytales, comic books, television series, films, rock music performances, video games, memes, and in some cases, original characters.

In itself, Cosplay has nothing whatsoever to do with eroticism or sexuality. Nevertheless, apart from its regular (non-sexual) form, Cosplay is a popular activity in erotic and sexual roleplay and sexual fantasy activities, often being blended with BDSM, kink, and fetish elements.
Cosplay can simply mean having sex as a certain character, but it can also be a very elaborate sexual roleplay and fantasy performance (including a script that needs to be carried out) in the bedroom or in a professional BDSM, kink, or fetish setting.
In the realm of BDSM, Cosplay often has elements of dominance and submission included, such as sexual bondage and erotic humiliation.
The type of Cosplay scenarios that can be enacted are sheer endless, but popular themes include doctor/nurse – patient, escort – client, executive – secretary, handyman – housewife, master – slave, photographer – model, teacher – student, prisoner-guard, mechanic – client, Age Play, Gender Play, Animal Roleplay (Pet Play), and Medical Play, to give some examples.
