Paid professional intimacy and companionship services come in both remote and in-person offerings, and sometimes in a combination thereof.
Remote offerings include virtual contact, for instance, through the Internet, phone, or texting. Live in-person offerings involve the professional companion meeting their client “in the flesh” to engage in specific agreed upon activities together.

The goals and activities of intimacy and companionship services vary, but in a general sense, we can say that they provide clients with physical, sexual, emotional, mental, and/or spiritual support and wellbeing.
Travel companions, for instance, may be hired to accompany an individual on a difficult hike to ensure increased safety, but they may also serve as a means to be able to socialize and exchange ideas during a hike.
People who are at risk of loneliness or who have been lonely for some time may wish to have a companion who provides company, conversation, fun, entertainment, and emotional support. This can be a real person, but in some cases, their needs may be fulfilled through Artificial Human Companionship.
Other people, such as the elderly or incapacitated/ill people may need a companion to help them get things done in and around the house and/or need help with personal care, such as taking their medication, bathing, or going to the toilet, etc.

Those who miss and crave physical or sexual intimacy and companionship may want to hire a surrogate girlfriend or escort, or maybe they engage in Cybersex, Cuddle Therapy, Dating Services, Sensual Erotic Massage, or perhaps they rather visit a brothel.
People who struggle with emotional issues and trauma with regard to intimacy, romantic relationships, and/or sexuality may seek help in specific treatments, therapies, coaching, or counseling, which involves a broad variety of options. Think of Intimacy Therapy, Intimacy & Relationship Coaching and Counseling, Sexological Bodywork, Somatic Sex Coaching and Somatic Sex Education, Tantric Sex training and retreats, Bondage Therapy, and/or Surrogate Partner Therapy, to name just a few possibilities.
At any rate, in our book about Professional Intimacy & Companionship, we discuss the many commercial options available for people who either simply need someone or “something” who/that provides intimacy and companionship, or — by contrast — need training, treatments, tools, and techniques to be able to function better in their current or future social, emotional, or sexual relationships.
