Diagnosis — or more correctly, Medical Diagnosis — is the final determination of an illness or health condition that explains a person’s physical, emotional/mental or spiritual symptoms and complaints.

Typically, a holistic massage or bodywork therapist will be guided by the various types of holistic assessments domains to come to a (holistic) diagnosis.

Most likely a holistic diagnosis will not point to only one cause, disease or health condition, but to multiple factors that contribute to a person’s dis-ease or unease. In fact, holistic diagnosis rather aims at looking for the underlying reasons of the client’s symptoms trying to deeply understand why someone has certain health issues.

Hence, (medical) advice and treatment plans to tackle a client’s health condition will often consist of multiple aspects. These may include massage, other types of bodywork, exercises, lifestyle changes, dietary adaptions, among others.

It may also turn out that we can’t help our client and need to refer them to another healthcare professional.

In general, holistic healing takes time. As already mentioned in our post Short Term versus Long Term Results, health benefits usually only come about after having several massage or bodywork sessions or — in the case of exercises the client needs to do by themselves — practicing those very regularly over a longer period of time.

In addition, adaptions in one’s lifestyle likewise take time to have their results.
