Dark Massage is an umbrella term for any type of massage, either erotic or non-erotic, that includes one or more BDSM, kink, or fetish activities in a treatment session.
Hence, Dark Massage has usually nothing to do with a massage session that is conducted in a dark room or so, or with low or dim lighting. Having said that, a massage may indeed be given in a dark or almost dark room to enhance the sensory experience for the receiver, which would make it a form of massage that could fit into the BDSM, kink, or fetish realm.

Yet, more commonly, the adjective “dark” is used in the sense of secret, hidden, unknown, subconscious, and unconscious sexual, erotic, or other wishes, fantasies, and desires, specifically those that usually don’t “see the light” in the public domain because of being taboo.
