Grannymaxxing — also written granny maxxing — is a practice of some involuntary celibate men that involves romantically or sexually pursuing old or very old women.
Although this might be done out of a personal preference, it’s rather deliberately practiced because of the idea that older or very old women would have lower standards or fewer expectations, and may be more open to romantic or sexual advances from younger “not so good-looking” guys.

Another thought here is that “grannies” have their lessons learned in life and have cast off superficiality, and therefore would be more likely to really love and sincerely care for one.
In addition, there’s also a quite other idea of what’s involved in grannymaxxing. In this case, it’s said that it’s about the “looks,” that is, a real grannymaxxer would prefer a young woman who looks “old and dilapidated,” over an old woman who looks “young and peachy.” It means that it’s rather about one’s aesthetic preference — maybe even a kind of fetish — for old or very old (looking) women, and not about a deliberate strategy to escape involuntary celibacy.
Anyway, grannymaxxing has obvious similarities with another type of maxxing, which is called hagmaxxing — also written hag maxxing. That practice is about the preference of younger men for dating older women. Hence, in this case it’s not necessarily about pursuing a “typical granny” (let’s say 60+ of age), but just a significantly older woman (for instance: he is 20 years old, she is 40).
The motives for hagmaxxing include things like a preference for a more mature, experienced, or nurturing partner, financial stability, a reaction to ageism against women, but sometimes also the idea that when women start to reach forty (being single) they become more “desperate,” which would increase the chances to date them.

By the way, a “hag” is typically a figure from folklore representing an ugly, malicious old woman, often a witch or female demon. In the sense of its use in hagmaxxing, the word “hag” is meant as a derogatory term for an unattractive “ugly old woman.”
Nevertheless, it’s actually a common misconception that grannymaxxing and hagmaxxing would be about pursuing ugly older or old women. That’s not at all the case. In general, those men who follow this practice would rather wish to have a date or relationship with a “normal or good-looking” older woman.
In fact, maxxers who deliberately go for so-called “ugly women” would fall in the category of uglymaxxing. So, having said that, pursuing ugly, old women would perhaps need a new maxxing category, such as, for instance, olduglymaxxing. As for maxxing types, well, the sky seems to be the limit.
