This poetry bundle is a personal critique and emotional reflection on living in Holland (The Netherlands), the country where I spent twenty-six years of my life.
Below, three poems from the collection.
Little Country
Little country
no more space
fighting for a place
little houses
cars and gardens
everybody hardens
little tulips
cheese and butter
flowers in the gutter
little hearts
and little minds
nothing more that binds
little country
no more peace
no one more at ease.
Best of Nations
You think you are
the center
of the world
without a doubt
the best
of nations
you think you are
the cream
of masters
without a doubt
the summit
of our lives
you think you are
the brightest
and the best
without a doubt
the better
of the rest.
It’s Never You
You smile
you take
on others
never take
responsibility
it’s never you
it’s just
the law
and you can’t
change a thing
the rules
are rules
for you
and me
a higher order
it’s never you
you smile
it’s others
nothing else
that bothers.
